On Kuche Tandoori (loosely translated: "bread-oven street") a group of workers manoeuvre a finished oven across the road where it will wait among others of varying sizes for a buyer. Ovens like these can be found buried beneath the floors of bakeries all over the capital, some no doubt originating 15 or more years ago when the World Food Program sponsored hundreds of bakeries across the capital. The program aimed to address severe food shortages - the result of several years of drought and the poor governance of the regime of the time, the Taliban.
